Road marching is one of the most enjoyable activities the cadets take part in. Arduous? yes, a challenge? Most definitely ! But the team spirit and camaraderie in completing one of the many available road marches is second to none.
The weekend 858 Cadets and Staff have been out participating in a 25 Km practice march to qualify them for their blue road marching badge. Photos from this weekends marches can be found here.

The entry level blue badge can be attained by cadets by completing three marches at 15km, 20km and 25km. Once most have completed that though they go on to complete the RAF 2 Day march held at RAF Cosford. The RAF Walking and Road Marching Association (RAFWARMA) seeks to promote the sport of walking of all types within the Royal Air Force and all sister and cadet services. Formed in 1980 RAFWARMA organises it’s own Two Day March every April, and a “Winter Walk” in Autumn.
RAFWARMA also promotes walking and road marching events around the UK. 858 can frequently be found on the Waendel walk in Wellingborough. Organised by Northants County Council it consists of walks varying from 5km to 42Km depending on the level of experience and preference.
Should that not be enough, and cadets are feeling more adventurous Cadets can complete as part of a South and East Midlands Wing team on the International 4 Days March in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Operating under the banner of the British Military Contingent, the 4 day March in the military category consists of 40km for for 4 consecutive days. 120 Km total.. Not for the faint hearted !
