Welcome to 858 (Rushden) Squadron

Commanding Officers Foreword

Welcome to the 858 (Rushden) Squadron website, I am Flight Lieutenant Colin Harmer, the Commanding Officer.  I’m in command of 7 members of staff and around 60 cadets.  My staff are all volunteers from varied backgrounds but all are focussed on providing a safe environment for the best experiences and opportunities for our cadets.

It’s a pleasure and a privilege being commander of a squadron, watching the progress of each cadet throughout their time with us and seeing them mature into respectable members of the community.

The Air Cadets are open to young people aged between 12 (and in school year 8) and 17 years of age. Once joined, you can stay up until your 20th birthday.

We are based on Victoria Road, Rushden, in the old Drill Hall. If you, or your child, are interested in joining the Air Cadets, why not arrange a visit on one of our parade nights. We parade weekly, every Monday and Wednesday between 7pm and 9:30pm (1900hrs – 2130hrs). We would be delighted to show you what the Air Cadets and 858 Squadron can offer you or your child.

As you browse our website you will find a variety of activities that cadets regularly undertake which include; Flying, Shooting, Sports, Adventurous Training and much more.

We look forward to seeing you at 858 soon.

Flt Lt Colin Harmer RAFAC
